I’m Kevin Dorsey, and I’m proud to call Flossmoor home for the past 23 years. As I run for Village Trustee, my goal is to continue serving this community with the same dedication I’ve always shown.
I’ve had the privilege of serving as the Flossmoor Village Community Relations Commissioner, and I currently serve as the Finance Chair for The Village Legal Community Project, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering our neighbors through programs that promote economic development and life-readiness.
I hold a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with an MBA and a Master’s in Human Resources/Organizational Development. I also earned a B.A. in Communication. Over the course of my career in executive business leadership, I’ve led initiatives that resulted in contractual portfolios exceeding $1 billion in revenue.
As a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief, I have decades of tested, committed leadership during challenging situations. I bring a wealth of public service, business and financial expertise, contract negotiations, and leadership experience to this role. I’m eager to leverage my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on Flossmoor’s future, and I’m excited about the opportunity to represent you as Village Trustee.
I believe that true community leadership and vision doesn’t start with polished words or handshakes—they start with listening. It’s about understanding the concerns of our residents and taking action with accountability and follow-through.

As your Flossmoor Village Trustee, that’s my commitment to you. My approach to leadership begins with hearing the voices of Flossmoor’s residents, engaging in open dialogue, and fostering mutual understanding. I value open communication and believe that trust is built through honest conversation.
My dedication to serving this community, my country, and civic organizations has been consistent and impactful throughout my life.

Throughout my life, I have been driven by an unwavering commitment to service. Throughout my life, I have been driven by an unwavering commitment to service. The profound question posed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “What are you doing for others?” has always inspired me to strive for more—to give more, to do more. This reflection shapes every decision I make and fuels my passion to continue serving.
- I am dedicated to stepping forward when leadership is needed, not waiting for others to act.
- I believe deeply that there is always a path toward progress, no matter the challenges we face.
- I focus on finding solutions, not blame.
- I hold myself accountable to those I serve, ensuring that every action I take reflects the best interests of our community.
- I am committed to breaking down barriers that hinder progress, opening doors for meaningful change.
- I listen intently to all voices, striving to understand their concerns and translating that understanding into thoughtful action.
- Above all, I remain steadfast in my dedication to service, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence.
This is my promise to the community I serve—an unshakable commitment to progress, inclusion, and integrity.

I absolutely love this community. Having lived all over the world, including many U.S. states, I can confidently say that Flossmoor is where I truly feel at home. I’ve lived here for over 22 years, and in that time, I’ve experienced the strength and support of this incredible village.
- As a single father, I had the comfort of knowing I was part of a community that helped me raise two amazing children.
- I’ve had the privilege of coaching and mentoring our local children through Scouting, youth sports, high school choir, and theater.
- My home has been a place where hundreds of neighbors have gathered to celebrate the power of community.
I’m running for Village Trustee because, as Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This village has given me so much, and now it’s my turn to give back. Over the past several months, many residents have asked me to step up and serve. With so much more to offer, it would be wrong not to answer that call.
Being part of the village board gives me expanded access to important documentation and information on the concerns our community faces. With this access, I can better understand the issues and make informed decisions about the best course of action. My approach to tackling both current and future challenges is built on four key principles:
- Listening: Actively hearing the concerns of residents and stakeholders.
- Understanding: Taking the time to fully grasp the complexities of each issue.
- Acting: Developing and implementing thoughtful, effective solutions.
- Following Through: Ensuring that actions are carried out and communicating the progress every step of the way.
This process will help me make informed decisions that benefit the community and build trust between the village board and its residents.
Before diving into my academic and professional qualifications—which I believe are essential for any candidate—let’s first talk about character, something I value even more highly.
- I love the man I’ve become. I say that with humility, knowing that every day offers new opportunities for growth.
- I believe in transparency. Even when delivering difficult news, honesty and openness are critical.
- I embrace diversity and inclusion. Our differences make us stronger, and I will champion inclusivity in all aspects of village life.
- I’m not afraid of change. Just because we’ve always done things a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way moving forward.
While Flossmoor is a wonderful place to live, we face many of the same challenges other communities do—rising property taxes, the need to develop business opportunities to reduce the residential tax burden, aging infrastructure, and ensuring we have adequate first responder staffing and training.
I bring over four decades of leadership experience, backed by strong academic credentials and professional expertise, to help address these challenges. I hold a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, an MBA, and I’ve spent years leading initiatives that impact both business and community growth. I’m confident that my unique combination of character, education, and experience will allow me to serve Flossmoor effectively as your next Village Trustee.

I am thrilled to endorse Kevin for Village Trustee. As a long standing resident of Flossmoor,
Kevin brings history, a wealth of knowledge, integrity, and dedication to our community. He is a listener and understands what makes people feel heard and valued, this has earned him my respect and admiration. Kevin’s genuine care for people and commitment to making a positive impact truly sets him apart. He is exactly the kind of leader we need to help guide our village forward with passion, sound judgement and compassion.
When the Mayor sought the ideal candidate for the Community Relations Commissioner, she immediately thought of Kevin—and for good reason. I was happy when he said “yes” to joining the Commission during a time of adversity. As a Commissioner, Kevin shared his expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and has been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive and welcoming community. Kevin’s commitment to understanding and valuing every voice makes him an outstanding choice for Village Trustee, where he can continue making a meaningful difference for all residents.
- Phillipa Leon-Thompson, Chair | Flossmoor Community Relations Commission
I met Kevin Dorsey when he first joined the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission. After that first meeting, I was quickly drawn to his keen insight, integrity, intellect, compassion, his forthright ability to convey opinion without judgment, and his ability to connect with anyone regardless of station or status. Kevin’s resume lists the professional and academic credentials and experience that are immediately transferable to the responsibilities of a Trustee. I believe he will quickly assist the Board to work collaboratively and will improve the decision making process. Kevin listens for understanding; our residents need to be heard. Kevin cares; our residents need a Trustee who considers concerns and issues with compassion. Kevin is fair and just; residents need a Trustee who will commit to learning the facts and present solutions as well as alternatives. Flossmoor needs Kevin Dorsey, a man whose mental and moral qualities are exemplary and who will work to strengthen the Village that he loves.
- Rosalind Mustafa | Flossmoor Board of Trustees
Dr. Kevin Dorsey has my unwavering endorsement for Flossmoor Village Trustee in the April 2025 election. I served with Kevin on the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission. He brought his insight, intellect, and passion for service to every meeting and spent countless hours engaged with residents who stopped him from talking at the local grocery store or when walking Max. While Kevin has outstanding academic and professional credentials to dig into the numerous challenges that face our Village, it is his character that speaks volumes about who he is and why he will serve us well as a Flossmoor Village Trustee. I want a trustee to be an open communicator willing to listen and understand without bias. I want honesty and accountability in a trustee, one who will not hide from tough or unpopular subjects. I want a trustee that will follow up and follow through, communicating progress every step of the way. I want someone to champion efforts that will strengthen our administration by ensuring all employees have the same opportunities to grow and succeed. It is of great importance to have a trustee who values and respects diversity and difference. Kevin already demonstrates the values I want a trustee to possess, and he is the real deal. Dr. Kevin Dorsey will get my vote, and I would like him to get yours, too.
- Jackie Riffice, Vice Chair | Flossmoor Community Relations Commission.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Kevin Dorsey for more than 15 years, our paths first crossing when our children attended school together. Throughout the years, I have admired Kevin for the values and servant leadership he has instilled in his children. However, it wasn't until this year that I truly witnessed Kevin in action, appreciating his measured, thoughtful, and constructive inputs on decisions being made by our village leadership and board.
I am confident that he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Flossmoor Village Board of trustees. His actions speak louder than words, both professionally and as a dedicated volunteer in our community. Kevin's leadership qualities, effective communication skills, and strong advocacy make him the ideal candidate for this position. His remarkable and relevant professional background further solidifies his qualifications.
Kevin is someone you should get to know. He embodies the qualities I believe are essential for representing our community effectively.
