Empowering Communities Together

 I absolutely love this community. Having lived all over the world, including many U.S. states, I can confidently say that Flossmoor is where I truly feel at home. I’ve lived here for over 22 years, and in that time, I’ve experienced the strength and support of this incredible village.

- As a single father, I had the comfort of knowing I was part of a community that helped me raise two amazing children.
- I’ve had the privilege of coaching and mentoring our local children through Scouting, youth sports, high school choir, and theater.
- My home has been a place where hundreds of neighbors have gathered to celebrate the power of community.

I’m running for Village Trustee because, as Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” This village has given me so much, and now it’s my turn to give back. Over the past several months, many residents have asked me to step up and serve. With so much more to offer, it would be wrong not to answer that call.
 

Being part of the village board gives me expanded access to important documentation and information on the concerns our community faces. With this access, I can better understand the issues and make informed decisions about the best course of action. My approach to tackling both current and future challenges is built on four key principles:

- Listening:  Actively hearing the concerns of residents and stakeholders.
- Understanding:  Taking the time to fully grasp the complexities of each issue.
- Acting: Developing and implementing thoughtful, effective solutions.
- Following Through:  Ensuring that actions are carried out and communicating the progress every step of the way.

This process will help me make informed decisions that benefit the community and build trust between the village board and its residents. 

Before diving into my academic and professional qualifications—which I believe are essential for any candidate—let’s first talk about character, something I value even more highly.

- I love the man I’ve become. I say that with humility, knowing that every day offers new opportunities for growth.
- I believe in transparency.  Even when delivering difficult news, honesty and openness are critical.
- I embrace diversity and inclusion. Our differences make us stronger, and I will champion inclusivity in all aspects of village life.
-  I’m not afraid of change. Just because we’ve always done things a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way moving forward.

While Flossmoor is a wonderful place to live, we face many of the same challenges other communities do—rising property taxes, the need to develop business opportunities to reduce the residential tax burden, aging infrastructure, and ensuring we have adequate first responder staffing and training.

I bring over four decades of leadership experience, backed by strong academic credentials and professional expertise, to help address these challenges. I hold a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership, an MBA, and I’ve spent years leading initiatives that impact both business and community growth. I’m confident that my unique combination of character, education, and experience will allow me to serve Flossmoor effectively as your next Village Trustee.

When the Mayor sought the ideal candidate for the Community Relations Commissioner, she immediately thought of Kevin—and for good reason. I was happy when he said “yes” to joining the Commission during a time of adversity. As a Commissioner, Kevin shared his expertise in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), and has been instrumental in fostering a more inclusive and welcoming community. Kevin’s commitment to understanding and valuing every voice makes him an outstanding choice for Village Trustee, where he can continue making a meaningful difference for all residents.

 I met Kevin Dorsey when he first joined the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission.  After that first meeting, I was quickly drawn to his keen insight, integrity, intellect, compassion, his forthright ability to convey opinion without judgment, and his ability to connect with anyone regardless of station or status.  Dr. Kevin Dorsey has my unwavering endorsement for Flossmoor Village Trustee in the April 2025 election. I served with Kevin on the Flossmoor Community Relations Commission. He brought his insight, intellect, and passion for service to every meeting and spent countless hours engaged with residents who stopped him from talking at the local grocery store or when walking Max. While Kevin has outstanding academic and professional credentials to dig into the numerous challenges that face our Village, it is his character that speaks volumes about who he is and why he will serve us well as a Flossmoor Village Trustee.  I have had the pleasure of knowing Kevin Dorsey for more than 15 years, our paths first crossing when our children attended school together. Throughout the years, I have admired Kevin for the values and servant leadership he has instilled in his children. However, it wasn't until this year that I truly witnessed Kevin in action, appreciating his measured, thoughtful, and constructive inputs on decisions being made by our village leadership and board.

I am confident that he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Flossmoor Village Board of trustees. His actions speak louder than words, both professionally and as a dedicated volunteer in our community.
